Bring the whole family down to Parksville Beach this Saturday and enjoy a treasure hunt that comes complete with pirates, fire, jugglers and stilt walkers.

That’s because VestaFire Entertainment from Nanaimo will be hosting the event, specializing in fire and LED shows.  The entertainers also play with poi (swinging tethered weights in a variety of patterns), stilts, hoops and other props.

Founder and Troup co-ordinator Karina Strong recently travelled with Spark Circus to the Burma/Thailand border teaching circus and performance at Burmese orphanages, migrant schools and refuge camps. She took her family with her: husband, seven-year-old  daughter and three-year-old son.

“It’s a way to bring joy to the people in need in disadvantaged countries,” she said, adding the people she met had nothing and really appreciated the shows and the donation of circus toys.

The work was all volunteer and Strong said it was a really great experience.

VestaFire was down at Parksville Beach teaching circus lessons last week, and that will continue this Thursday, Aug 2, from 7 to 9 p.m., with admission by donation.

Strong’s daughter Jenna is also a performer and can be seen doing tricks with her glow hoop or sauntering around on stilts.

On August 4, VestaFire will host the treasure hunt at 1 p.m. for the Quality Foods Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition (BeachFest), followed by their fire show around 9 p.m. (when it gets dark enough).

Strong said people will get to see their regular, spectacular show, only bigger and longer with extra surprises and guests.

“It will have a bit of a fah wooomph bonus,” she said.

Catch the group again on August 9 and then on August 18, when the big BeachFest finale fireworks will also be happening. For more on VestaFire visit, for the schedule of performances at Beach Fest visit
