We’re back. We were on a bit of a Kidding Around hiatus. Family, life, and health are the priorities and now we have gotten things organized; I’m sure you can relate. We all live lives that are a bit busy and overwhelming at times.

We are thrilled to bring you some new family friendly ideas, activities and interviews.

We want to celebrate the moms, dads, grandparents, caregivers, kids, teachers — anything that will enhance family life here on Vancouver Island.

Our family loves road trip worthy adventures. One that we are heading out to is Cirque du Soliel’s show Dralion ( http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/dralion/default.aspx).

If you can get your car full of humans that will ooh and ahh over unbelievable acrobatics, skills, music, costumes and more, make a plan for this road trip to Victoria’s Save-On-Food Memorial Centre between June 22nd and 26th.

I had a chance to talk to Julie Desmarai, the Dralion publicist, and we talked about how the travelling arena shows inspire people.

I know I am in awe of the whole show, but how does it make our kids feel?

She said that kids who are into gymnastic, sports and the arts are inspired by the shows.

It lets our young people know what is capable if you work hard and are determined and dedicated.

It allows us to see and work for our dreams and joy.

She also says it inspires young and old to find the child in you. So whatever age you are, let your inner child be free and join the circus, or at least watch it.

I was curious to know how they find their talented staff.

Julie said they have a casting team that goes around the world and they search out people in a variety of fields.

They also hold auditions and if you do a video showing your skills, you can send it to the Cirque du Soliel website.

They love finding new and passionate skilled cast members.

I think Karina Strong, of Vestafire Entertainment ( http://web.vestafireentertainment.ca),is certainly helping our local kids and adults find their inner circus persona and passions.

Karina, who’s from Lantzville, is teaching classes on poi (each hand swings a ball at the end of cloth tube), hooping, stilt walking and more.

This is a great place to start if you and your child are interested in anything circus-related. Brings out the inner child, and teaches amazingly fun and physical skills.

Our eldest circus kid, Grace, took a class with Vestafire and now she cannot stop hooping or doing her poi work.

Fun to watch, and maybe, just maybe, she’ll be inspired after seeing Cirque du Soliel and want to audition for them in the future.
